SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The National Association for Black Geoscientists (NABG) is honored to provide scholarships to undergraduate and graduate minority students enrolled full-time in geoscience programs at an accredited college or university.
Scholarship candidates must demonstrate academic excellence, for the purpose of the scholarship is to prepare candidates to be the work force of the future. Funding for scholarships totaling over $300,000 has been achieved through fund raising activities and corporate donations.
Scholarship Requirements
Recipients of NABG scholarships must meet the following requirements:
- Be a United States citizen or have appropriate Student Visa Card
- Be a Geoscience major
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5
- Submit an application package consisting of:
- a completed application form,
- a personal statement describing career goals, interests, honors/awards, and extracurricular activities,
- an official academic transcript,
- two letters of recommendation (one from a Geoscience faculty member)
Selection Process
The Scholarship committee will review and rate all application packages received and make recommendations for scholarship awards. The amount of the award is determined by academic merit and is not automatically renewed. Scholarship applications MUST be postmarked no later than April 30th.
Award recipients will be notified electronically by September 10, therefore, please provide a valid email address or inform NABG of any changes to the email address. The Scholarship awards and letter of recognition will be sent to the Department Chairperson on behalf of the recipients.
PLEASE provide a complete postal mailing address for the Geoscience Department which will be receiving the award check. Recipients will be recognized at the annual conference and are encourage to attend. NABG is a non-discriminating organization and any student meeting the requirements are encourage to apply.
Incomplete packages will result in ineligibility.
